Musical Instrument Jam Session
- Toddler-safe instruments: maracas, tambourines, shakers, egg shakers (1 per child)
- Bluetooth speaker with Cocomelon playlist queued up
- Blanket or mat to sit on
Spread a blanket on the floor and lay out instruments in the center. Play Cocomelon songs ('Wheels on the Bus,' 'Baby Shark,' 'Head Shoulders Knees and Toes') and let toddlers pick up instruments and play along. An adult leads by example — shaking a maraca, singing along, and encouraging kids to follow the beat. Swap instruments between songs so every child tries different ones. There's no structure here and that's the point — toddlers jam at their own pace.
Tip: Keep this to 10-15 minutes max. Toddlers lose interest fast, and the noise level climbs quickly. Have a parent near each child for the first minute to show them how each instrument works. Egg shakers are the best starter instrument because they're easy to grip and impossible to hurt anyone with. Play 'If You're Happy and You Know It' last because the stomp/clap parts give toddlers a natural transition to standing up and moving.
