Mario Obstacle Course
- Pool noodles or jump ropes (for hurdles)
- Cardboard boxes as question blocks to jump and touch
- A tunnel or large box to crawl through (the warp pipe)
- Cones or markers for zigzag running
- Finish line banner or tape
- Timer or stopwatch
Set up a course with 5-6 stations: (1) run and jump over pool noodle hurdles (Goombas), (2) zigzag through cones (dodging Bullet Bills), (3) crawl through a tunnel or large box (the warp pipe), (4) jump up and touch a hanging question block, (5) toss a ball into a bucket (fireball throw), (6) sprint to the finish line. Time each kid individually or race in pairs. Record times on a poster board so everyone can see the leaderboard.
Tip: Walk the course yourself first and time it — aim for 60-90 seconds per run for ages 5-8. Adjust hurdle height and distance for different ages. Have an adult at each station to cheer and help younger kids. Play the Mario underground theme during the warp pipe crawl for maximum giggles. This is the highlight activity — budget 20-25 minutes because every kid wants to beat their own time.
